Young at Art
PROJECTS
The Incredible Life of P-22
Students will learn about color value and use acrylic paint to render their own tribute to the life of P-22.
Quilling Ocean Sunset Wave
Students will use colorful quilling paper, toothpicks and markers to create a 2D/3D sunset oceanscape that illustrates the Rayleigh (ray lee) Scattering phenomenon, the scattering of light (and color) caused by particles in the atmosphere.
Art in Motion
Using Alexander Calder’s primary color palette of red, blue and yellow, along with black, students will both construct and sculpt, find balance and create movement with their own
standing mobile made of wire and foam.

The Original Recycler
Students will create their own free-form relief sculpture with cardboard, foam, foil and other recycled materials using
Louise Nevelson’s style as inspiration.

Layers of Abstraction
In the style of Wassily Kandinsky, students will conduct a side-by-side experiment using the same colors of paint and oil pastels to achieve very different results. “Opposites” in color layering – one emphasizing warm colors and the other cool colors - but unified in
design with comparable brush strokes and color palette.

Violin Face
Inspired by contemporary surrealist artist Vladimir Kush, students will use pencil and acrylics to draw and then paint a
composition juxtaposing a half-violin and half-human face emerging from the blue sky, to create a dream-like and
harmonious whole.
